If we're honest they've often been talked about in really confident, certain ways. And then we're told that's what faith looks like...certainty.
But there's this beautiful moment in Mark's gospel, where a desperate man says one of the most honest things to Jesus, "I believe, but help my unbelief". Many of us relate to that prayer, because as much as we might want to believe and be certain, we always seem to be chased around by a whole lot of doubt.
